In their first face-off, the Father kills a man and Johnny wounds it. From then on, the Father hunts him relentlessly until the heart-pounding final confrontation on the beaches of the South Pacific. With Johnny is Footy, a colorful Aussie, and their Japanese prisoner. Katsu has only one thing left - his family heirloom samurai sword. The three run directly for the Valley of the Cannibals - home to the most bloodthirsty headhunters on the entire island of New Guinea. The lovely Gwyn saved Johnny's life, but to have a chance with her, he must meet her challenge to rediscover his heart. Meet real people like Supreme Commander, General Douglas MacArthur and gunboat skipper (and future US President) Jack Kennedy. Teeth - The Epic Novel with Bite (The South Pacific Trilogy, Volume 1) CustomerReview

While growing up I spent 6 years of my life in Papua New Guinea and Australia. My parents were missionaries in PNG. I found Timothy Deans book to be right on the mark as far as authenticity goes. As previous reviewers stated it is action packed and kept my interest from the first page on.

Mr. Dean gives the reader an in depth perspective on one of the main characters of the book, the salt water crocodile. I can attest to the nastiness of this creature. We lived on a coconut plantation just north of the coastal town of Madang. One week while I was at boarding school in Australia my mom sent me an article out of the paper that said a local man had disappeared down by the river. His family was concerned that a crocodile might have gotten him. A few weeks later I received another letter. The case was solved as one of the villagers had killed a pretty good sized croc and upon dissecting the beast found pieces of his missing friend inside.

The book explores various tribal customs, some examples being the `cargo cult' and a `sing sing'. His visualization of these rituals are right on par with what I remember seeing and hearing about. The perilous life of the missionaries who were in New Guinea during the time of the Japanese invasion is touched on in detail. I had discussions with missionaries who lived through these times. The smart ones headed off into the mountains while others were not so lucky.

Whether you are familiar with this region or just looking for an exciting book I highly recommend `Teeth'. It was a great trip down memory lane for me.
